Welch Elementary School is a public prekindergarten through fifth-grade elementary school located at 240 Mary Freeman Road in Newnan, Georgia. The school is part of the Coweta County Public Schools system and as a Title I school, receives federal funding for school improvement. It’s named in honor of former Coweta County Public Schools superintendent Bobby Welch.
The Coweta County Public Schools system utilizes the Georgia Standards of excellence. These standards are comprised of frameworks that guide teachers and students in the areas of English language arts, fine arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, world languages, computer science and health education.
Welch Elementary School believes that organized learning should be offered over the summer as well. That’s why they provide a variety of summer activities for student participation, also known as engagements. The reading engagements include Summer Literacy Strategies, Summer Reading Lists, 10 Weeks of Reading and Growing Book-By-Book. Math engagements include 16 Math Activities and Summer Math Links, among others. Parents and caregivers can participate in the school’s Summer Resources for Parents and 50 Fun Summer Activities.
The school also offers an innovative science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) garden. The garden gives students the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities while focusing on their critical thinking skills and preparing them for a technology-focused workforce.
