Pennoyer Elementary is a Pre-K through 8th-grade school serving the areas of Norridge, Harwood Heights, and Norwood Park. The school currently enrolls over 525 students with an emphasis on inclusion, empowerment, and individual growth. Pennoyer seeks to create responsible and respectful citizens who think both creatively and critically. Named after the Pennoyer family, who was instrumental in the development of the Norridge community in the late 19th century, the school was founded in 1893 with classes taking place in the Pennoyer home. Later, a small schoolhouse was built nearby. While numerous additions and renovations of the original schoolhouse occurred over the next 50 years, a new building was built in the current location opening in 1956. Pennoyer seeks to empower students toward individual success. A dynamic learning environment focuses on the whole child amid a strong community and culture dedicated to learning. Pennoyer strives to allow both students and parents to take an active role in the educational process. Students are encouraged to take risks and increase their problem-solving skills.

Pennoyer is an excellent school for many reasons. They truly care and love the students. I have one child who needs to be challenged more and one child that needs more support. The teachers are wonderful with both of their individual needs. We love it here.
