Oak Park's Ascension Catholic School is located at 601 Van Buren St. and serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students with a private Catholic education that emphasizes a faith-based curriculum founded on "love, kindness and respect."
Ascension Catholic School enrolls 453 students with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1. Preschoolers enjoy both half-day and full-day instruction where social, motor and early literacy skills are promoted. First graders work on reading, subtraction and addition, while second graders add science and social studies to their curriculum and prepare for their first Holy Communion. Third graders are taught American history as well as multiplication and division.
Elementary students are introduced to critical thinking and problem solving and guided from 'learning to read' to 'reading to learn.' Ascension's junior high school students participate in rewarding field trips to the Chicago Art Institute and the Lyric Opera House and are invited to use the Fenwick High School's STEM lab to expand their exposure to technology. All grades are equipped with iPads and Chromebooks for use in the classroom.
Ascension Catholic Elementary has been nourishing the minds and souls of children for over 100 years and remains a vital part of the Oak Park community.

I went to this school last year the reason I left was because of it. Every day for two years I would be bullied 24/7 and in front of the teachers too. Terrible. I felt like I couldn’t be myself at this school. The teachers don’t know how to handle a situation where a student is bullied even though they have a no bully policy.
