When Maria Montessori opened her first school in Rome, Italy, little did she know what an impact it was about to have on education. Her philosophy of allowing children to choose their activities and use materials made for child-sized hands was revolutionary. By the mid-1960s there were Montessori schools established all over the world.
Montessori Preparatory School of Ocala is one of five schools owned and operated by the Tampa based Montessori Academies. Established in 1996, the school serves children in Ocala and Marion County, infants through 5th grade, in both preschool and elementary school levels.
For the littlest ones, sensory activities and activities that encourage listening and visual skills are the focus. For elementary age students, the curriculum is a blend of traditional and Montessori education with an emphasis on language skills, reading and writing.
All students have lessons in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
Academics includes language development, science and mathematical concepts, reading comprehension, social studies, geography, and teamwork and leadership skills to name a few. Physical education is also emphasized along with enrichment classes like dance, cooking, art and music appreciation, critical thinking and careers.
The school also has a summer program with day-long offerings of both academic and enrichment activities designed to stimulate interest and creativity. Add to this science fairs, an International Festival and other special events and Montessori Preparatory School of Ocala goes a long way toward its goal of creating lifelong learners.

Director is only 28 or 29 and is too inexperienced. Teachers speak with heavy Spanish accents which makes it difficult for the children to learn proper English Teachers frequently YELL at the children and repeatedly fail to complete accident reports even though the injuries required ice to be applie...
