I was a student a few years ago. The academics were good, there were options such as Honors and AP classes. The diversity in those classes wasn't the best, most of the time myself and 3-4 other students were the only people of color in the room. However, in the school overall, there is more inclusivity. There were interesting clubs and electives you could take to explore career options and interests. Most of my teachers seemed to care for their students, but of course, there are exceptions.

I have met many great students and teachers at west however there's a lot of work to be done regarding the spirit and community aspect at west. Student involvement is lacking as many students simply aren't in many extracurriculars. While some sports receive good funding others fall short. The food is acceptable but sometimes will come out a little raw. I Think west could also use some clubs that are staples at other schools from mine and others experience. With that being said the faculty is great and a variety of classes and education is offered my only issue is personal being that I couldn't fit the classes I wanted in my schedule such as AP physics 2 and AP calc. The diversity is great at the school and it certainly gives character and allows people to find friends. Like I said I think some more clubs would do it justice such as chess or fishing two of my interests. It would allow freshmen to find people with similar interests as them.

I have attended Shawnee Mission West for the past 3 years and overall have enjoyed my highschool experience. While there's obviously some up and downs to any school I feel that SMW has helped me become a better person through opportunities and growth programs and helped me prepare for my life after highschool.

the school as a whole is pretty nice, but the teachers are so bad, everyone I know can do nothing but complain about them. that school has caused me more grief than bullying and death combined. and that's just disgraceful. I've attended that school for 4 years now, and my last day is May 13th, 2011....
