Founded by Philadelphia community volunteers and educational advocates, the Wissahickon Charter School serves kindergarten through eighth grade students on two campuses — Awbury and Fernhill. The public charter school opened its Fernhill campus in September 2002, while the Awbury campus wasn't established until September 2014 in East Germantown.
No matter which campus you attend, the Wissahickon Charter School goes beyond traditional curricula to incorporate environmental awareness, conflict resolution and digital technology. As part of the school's environmental focus, students learn about the relationship between humans and nature. Teachers at Wissahickon Charter School encourage this connection through outdoor classroom instruction using school gardens, programs and service projects. Students can also gain first-hand experience through field trips to ponds and streams, water monitoring projects, backpacking and overnight camping.
Wissahickon Charter also believes in the importance of social-emotional learning. Students are taught how to resolve conflicts peacefully by talking, listening and working together to develop solutions through different programs.
The school understands the importance of digital technology in today's world. Students in third through fifth grade learn to type, giving them the tools to manage a keyboard and conduct online research. Older students refine their computer skills and discuss societal issues, such as how to stay safe online.

This is an amazing school. The teachers are so hardworking and dedicated. The curriculum is also pretty incredible.

Have never had any issues and they stay on top of immunizations. Dentist mobile and eye mobile also come to the school. A very health awareness school.

This school is a madhouse- absolutely no respect for snyone there. Its really sad to see the city funding schools that are as poorly run as wissahickon charter school. Advice to parents- choose someplace else!!

Excellent! We've enjoyed every teacher that has taught our children and we truly feel like we're part of a community of people who all care about the school and the students.
