Established in 2000 next to popular El Prado Park, Ed and Verma Pastor Elementary is a public school serving more than 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade as part of the Roosevelt School District. At Pastor Elementary, as it is more commonly called, teachers follow a core curriculum using Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for English language arts, Envision Math for lower grades, Carnegie Learning math for upper grades, and Science Dimensions for science in kindergarten through eighth. The school provides instruction in arts, music, library, and physical education, as well as one-to-one technology for all students. Although students at Pastor Elementary earn test scores in reading and math below the state average, they achieve higher scores than the district’s average. Outside of the classroom, students can play and march in an award-winning band program, sing in choir, or join the eSports District Champions. For the more active set, aspiring athletes can compete in volleyball, soccer, basketball, or cheerleading. Additionally, the district hosts a number of before- and after-school activities, ranging from Mad Science and LEGO Building Bonanza to reading club and casual sports. For the overall wellbeing of the student body, the school also has a speech pathologist, social worker, psychologist, and school nurse to make sure that everyone can perform at their best, regardless of any individual challenges.

What I liked best was the competitiveness between students academically and in sports as well. The teachers are very helpful and flexible with their work and do the best to get students to where they need to be. We have the best coaches in sports in the entire district.

Excellent, the staff is friendly and always there to help. The administration is effective in solving issues and supporting staff. I had a great experience at Pastor.

The principal never does anything about the students problems, she doesn't hear both sides. Ms.Acosta has favorites and doesn't know how to treat the children instead of trying to cope and guide kids. Being the principal is more than just giving out referrals, but being there for the students helpin...

My experience at this school was average. The class sizes were to large. The class structure and persistent behavior problems took away from learning, becasue of this I probably did not learn as much as I could have. I do feel I learned, but I would have liked more student and teacher interaction. I...
