Home of the Falcons, Veritas Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school that focuses on cultivating students’ minds and hearts with truth, goodness and beauty. The academy offers a rigorous liberal arts curriculum with an emphasis on critical thinking.
Here, students in grades 6-12 are assigned to one of six houses, each named after a historical figure — Homer, Da Vinci, Joan of Arc, Newton, Charlemagne and Washington. As the cornerstone of Veritas Prep, the House system fosters a sense of community and friendly competition unrivaled by most schools.
Like all Great Hearts Academies, the school sets high expectations for students not just in academics but in personal conduct and behavior as well. The faculty follows a classical approach to education, where, beyond the mastery of subjects, students can also learn virtues to make them more responsible citizens.
In addition to athletics and a number extracurriculars in the fine arts, some of the school’s notable programs include the student newspaper, yearbook, the annual Veritas Art Walk, student musical, and the Iliadathon, which is an all-night reading marathon of Homer’s classic epic.

The school provides a great education and does a phenomenal job molding young minds the think on their own and use critical thinking to solve problems. Some of the teachers do not do their jobs very well though. I have had an overall great experience except the teachers sometimes overlook bullying and lack basic teaching and classroom management skills.

The thing I love most about Veritas is how much it truly feels like a family. Having such a small, close-knit community allows you to form such close friendships with your fellow peers and teachers that you can't get anywhere else. I just wish that there could be a way to integrate modern social issues with the Classical curriculum because I feel as if young people need to be educated about the society that they are preparing to enter and become active parts of.

As a student for 3 years, I have had a great time, not only with fellow students, but with teachers who make it their primary goal to truly advance the students.

Veritas was the most horrible school I have gone to in my 15 years of life. I felt like I was being tortured by the teachers and administration and I had no friends. It was awful. Do not send your kids unless you want them to cry every night when they get home.
