With a modern campus nestled in a residential community in South Phoenix, Percy L. Julian School is a public middle school serving more than 250 children in fourth through eighth grades. As part of the Roosevelt School District, the school inspires youth with a mission to help them be fit, healthy and, most importantly, kind as they become future leaders in the 21st century. In addition to a core curriculum that focuses on project-based and hands-on learning, teachers here lead programs to help students develop leadership as well as social and emotional skills. To accelerate learning, digital literacy and collaboration, all classrooms at Percy L. Julian are outfitted with SMART interactive white boards that are on the cutting-edge of teaching technology. Beyond standard subjects in math, reading, science, and history, students can thrive in the arts with access to a dedicated art room and a full marching band of instruments that allow for comprehensive music instruction. In addition, the school hosts a living garden for each grade level where students learn the importance of food security and cultivation through a partnership with The Farm at South Mountain. As for extracurriculars, students can pursue interests in a range of clubs from After COOL Fitness and Mad Science to Phoenix Boys Choir and Elevate Phoenix, which is an urban youth program. The more athletic individuals can show their Eagle spirit while competing on teams for basketball, soccer, or volleyball.
