With a mission to educate, inspire, and empower all students to succeed every day, Sunland Elementary serves more than 600 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in a creative environment in South Phoenix. Aside from helping students earn test scores in reading and math that are well above the district’s average, this public school in the Roosevelt School District No. 66 is known for staff who like to go the extra mile for their local community. Throughout the year, the faculty and staff at Sunland create a calendar of engaging opportunities for kids and the community including turkey trots, community health fairs, principal coffee talks, and creative holiday events such as a Halloween parade and Mexican Independence Spirit Day. Students also join in the action by leading their own wax museum events and portfolio nights. Students can test their skills in the Sunland Dance Company or compete in district tournaments via Sunland Scorpion E-Sports, and the more athletic set can participate in volleyball, basketball, soccer, as well as cheerleading. Annual field trips to New York City and Washington, D.C., round out some of the rites of passage for students in upper grade levels. Among the programs offered by the district, students can also participate in a gifted program, get free breakfasts and lunches (even during summer), and get involved in before- and after-school activities, ranging from Mad Science and LEGO Building Bonanza to reading club and disc golf, among others.

Sunland Elementary is a good school to enroll your kids wanting a good education. However, there are a few negative things about the school, such as having no art class for the children, and a bit of communication problems with the teachers, but other than that the school is decent.
