Mt. Lebanon Montessori School and Academy follows an educational model created over 100 years ago by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori. Her Casa dei Bambini (Italian for “children’s house”), which she founded in 1907, was so successful in the face of tough circumstances that it quickly gave birth to an international movement. This movement was the foundation of Mt. Lebanon Montessori, which started in 1976 as a preschool program at St. Winifred’s Church. The school was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1993 and, one year later, established its elementary program. In the summer of 2021, it moved into its current location in Bower Hill Community Church, along Moffett Street in the northwest part of the township. The school enrolls more than 130 students from age 2 through sixth grade with 22 staff members. Its average elementary class size of 33 is in the ideal range outlined by the Montessori Method, where teachers (or “directresses”) spark a passion for learning that develops into a student-led environment. Children are grouped in two age ranges – 6 to 9 and 9 through 12 – which encourages mentoring that benefits both older and younger pupils. In addition to math, language and science lessons, elementary students learn to code, go on plenty of field trips and delve deeply into continental studies through a hands-on process that fortifies their education. And parents are kept abreast of their progress and experiences through presentations that the students prepare on their iPads twice per school year.

Best school ever. My daughters love it. Teachers know what they are doing. Academics are so strong. They have Spanish from pre school!!! Feel like we are the family there.

Every family has different values and goals. For our family it is important to us that our children are in an environm...

My child is picked up by at least 7 different people that rotate every morning. We did not sign up for this.- toddler parents are allowed...

They first take your money (deposit, first installment, supplies - yes supplies like kleenex and then snacks, as if it is one of those cheap preschools), then you sign papers agreeing to their ridiculous rules. By the way, be prepared to sit in the car line for a long time, while the parking lot is...
