Pittsburgh Brashear High School (Brashear), opened in 1976 along Crane Avenue in Beechview’s northern end, is the third high school built in this Pittsburgh neighborhood. The public school serves kids in grades nine through 12 from Beechview and several surrounding neighborhoods. Its namesake, Dr. John A. Brashear, was chancellor of Pitt and an amateur astronomer who designed telescope lenses worldwide. Brashear has a partial Teaching Academy Magnet program for students who wish to explore the profession before committing to it. Career and tech education includes auto body repair, automotive technology, multimedia production and coding. The school library houses an expansive digitized collection and state-of-the-art research computer lab, and classrooms are equipped with projectors and smartboards. More than a dozen advanced placement courses are offered, and the school compels all students to take at least one before graduating. A new program, Life After High School, works in conjunction with libraries throughout the city to cover college applications, mock job interviews, cooking, money management and bicycle maintenance. Extracurriculars include student government; a wide range of fall, winter and spring sports; math, literacy and science competitions, including a Hometown High-Q team; community service and leadership activities; and more than 25 clubs. Whatever direction students are planning to take, Brashear High School helps to pave the way.

Too much hostility from students, and staff feel too burned out to care. The education system has failed our generation immensely. However, I am excited for college and my future because if I can handle that high school, and survive, I feel I have more resilience than I ever thought possible.

Brashear High School is a school comprised of many races and cultures. So when students come to study, they will somewhat reduce the feeling of being alone because they are different

The best part of Brashear High school are the teachers. They're very helpful and energetic. The worst part is the lunch it's not that tasty.

Because there are people from all over the world with many languages, cultures, and ideologies, it's enjoyable and possibly will give you college experience.
