The Propel Charter School in Hazelwood opened in 2015 in the former St. Stephen School. Propel Charter-Hazelwood serves approximately 275 students. The k-8 grade school is one of 13 charter schools operated by Propel in Allegheny County, and is the only public grade school located within the Hazelwood neighborhood. Propel Charter-Hazelwood offers a variety of academic programs and provides health and social services, youth and community development, and opportunities for community engagement. Propel Schools is a network of community schools committed to providing innovative academic and award-winning enrichment programs to traditionally underserved areas of the City.
