Portland Raiders prepare to reach their college and career goals at Portland High School. Home to a large student body, this northern Portland educational institution offers some of the highest-rated academics in Ionia County. Thanks to the faculty’s commitment to academic integrity and exploratory courses, students have many opportunities to find their passions and prepare for life beyond high school. The Portland Early College Program allows students starting as early as ninth grade to take college courses. Once these students complete an additional year of high school, they can graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree. Work-based learning programs also prepare high school students for their career goals. Extracurricular options abound at Portland High. Music, art, drama, quiz bowl and science olympiad are just a few programs for interested students. Portland Raiders compete in Capital Area Activities Conference athletics. A full athletic calendar includes soccer, football, track, baseball and other individual and team sports. A vital school counselor office and support from Michigan’s OK 2 Say program promote positive mental health support for students. Portland High School is a very small school. Diversity is a term I laugh at when related to the school, the small city of Portland in general lacks diversity. The teachers included are all white. The academic level the school offers doesn't allow a student to be fully challenged: due to their insufficient AP classes they offer.

Portland Schools are an incredibly great school and the teacher a so great. They give very good advice and all the staff are very helpful.

It is a small school, so there are a lot of draw backs. A concerning lack of AP and other academically challenging classes. The people that get to play on the sports teams tend to be determined mostly by favoritism, but they do have some successful programs.

If you have a high schooler please just look at a different school. If you haven't grown up here then no one will stand up for you or your child when your child is being targeted.

Even though the scores are very concerning (i.e. only 30% of 11th graders are proficient in math and science; reading is the only subject where 11th graders even reach half of students being proficient), I still gave an average, 3-stars, due to these scores actually being what's average out there in...
