GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Portola Junior/Senior High school could be a lot better with the right funding. For example, we only have one language and no clubs. With more funding this school could be okay considering how small our town's population is. I wish we had more academics like french, german, or any other language. Otherwise our school is okay.

I like the small, tight-knit community feel of the school. I can go talk to my teachers casually and easily. Everyone knows everybody, which can sometimes be a down-side, but it creates a more welcoming environment. One of the things I would change, however, is to get rid of some of the strict, unnecessary rules and/or expectations.

I enjoyed the intimacy of the small school setting and was impressed with the amount of classes available. The teachers are dedicated to the students and the atmosphere feels supportive

For whatever reason, the cafeteria seems to consistently fail the students. Every Thursday for the past year, the cafeteria does not make enough food which leaves students without a meal and hungry. Despite the fact that the attendance department informs the cafeteria how many students need a lunch...

We are parents of an 8th grader. The facilities are bad, but temporary, as a beautiful new school is being built. The principal is great, some staff very good, some less (a bit busy minding their lunches, conversations, etc...). The counselors are very helpful. 7th grade teachers could use some disc...
