Children in kindergarten through sixth grade in Point Richmond can attend Washington Elementary, located just steps from downtown. Supported by an active parent-teacher association, Washington Elementary has led the way in dual-language immersion education. Students at Washington Elementary learn in both Spanish and English, starting in kindergarten. Each year, they gain more exposure in their second language until their day is divided 50-50 by fourth grade. The goal is for each student to attain literacy and academic proficiency in both languages. Washington Elementary was named a Gold Ribbon School by the State of California in 2016. One of their innovative programs includes an Edible Education Garden, where kids can get outside for hands-on learning. With a diverse student body of more than 450 kids and a history going back more than 100 years, Washington Elementary, home of the Dolphins, offers a safe environment for local children to learn and grow.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

We transferred our two children into Washington to be part of the DLI program. We were allowed to visit the school before committing, and my oldest admitted that this was a better school within only 30 minutes of being on campus. We absolutely love everything that the school does for the students, t...

Really disappointing. I knew going in that the school had bad ratings, as learning in a second language always causes a learning curve and can thus drop ratings, but I was not prepared for just how badly run the school would be. The office staff are wonderful, as are the librarian and music teachers...

I'm extremely satisfied with Washington Elementary & more than confused as to why this school on rates 2/10 as of my posting. Bilingual education at a public school price? Safe, quiet neighborhood? Friendly & helpful teachers? Yes please! Honestly baffled why this school isn't at least an 8/10 :)
