Opened in the 1950s, Maude Trevvett Elementary School in the Henrico County neighborhood of Laurel, was named to honor a veteran elementary school educator.
The school replaced the aging Laurel Elementary School and now enrolls about 500 prekindergarten through fifth grade students.
Students take classes in math, science, English and reading. Computer classes are a combination of technology and social media awareness, with an emphasis on personal accountability and time management. The school combines personal wellness lessons with gym class to help students make healthy choices outside of school. Ball fields, a track and playgrounds surround Trevvett Elementary School. Students are encouraged to join extracurricular activities, such as student council and bully-blocker clubs. Throughout the year, students participate in community service projects with the goal of building good character and developing active young citizens.
