The Police Officer Ramon Suarez School P.S. 239 is a public pre-k to 5th grade school serving Ridgweeood since 2003. In 2014, former Mayor Bill Bill de Blasio implemented a city-wide plan to expand full-day pre-kindergarten seats to 4-year-olds. Today, there are over 600 students at the school. It is located at 17–15 Ware Field Street in Ridgewood, NY. The school aims to promote social, emotional, and academic development through high-quality instruction. The mission at PS2 39 is to create partnerships between the community, students, and families to create lifelong learners. The principal is Ms. Nina Morris. Ms. Morris, along with teachers and staff, strives to continue PS 239's reputation of academic excellence, outstanding citizenship, and integrity. By doing this, PS 239 prepares children for success in an ever-changing world by educating, empowering, and enabling them to become responsible, self-reliant, and contributing citizens. The school's vision is to create an inclusive environment where our children can learn and excel when challenged. The school's culture is centered on giving kids the academic and social tools they need to succeed. PS 239 also serves students with disabilities who require special education services. A typical Monday through Friday schedule begins with breakfast at 8 AM and ends at 2:20 PM. As part of the New York City Department of education, all students receive free lunch meals and breakfast. Students learn science, music, social and emotional skills, visual arts, physical education, and more. The strong science program at PS239 helps young students make sense of the physical world around them. Music class teaches students how to communicate their feelings and emotions through speaking, singing, playing, moving, and composing music. Teachers incorporate social and emotional learning as students develop healthy emotional management skills to identify their thoughts, show empathy for others, and be responsible. In New York State, all students must receive physical education. In PE, students at PS2 39 set fitness goals and improve their muscular strength, flexibility, endurance, and self-esteem. Students with disabilities may participate in adapted PE. There is also an outstanding STEM program that begins in kindergarten. STEM resources are made available through the computer science for all initiative that ensures all NYC public school students learn computer science. Throughout their time at PS239, students develop their computer literacy skills by working together to solve problems, write and adapt existing code, and build prototypes. There is an after-school program available from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM during the school year called The Greater Ridgewood Youth Council For–Fee After-School program. The Director of the program is Paul Hoffman. The program provides a safe and fun environment for children to get help with homework or join activities like dance, arts and crafts, fitness gym, and more.

The Principal is great, I do not appreciate the lack of respect, unprofessionalism found within the school safety Officers. They do not greet parents when they walk in, they have lots of attitude, are always on their phone, and yell at the children. They are disrespectful and short tempered when ask...

In my experience as a parent who has had a child in this school in 2009 and another in 2016, I see a huge improvement. The standards of the school have improved greatly and I believe it's due to the new administration. As with everything else in life, changes need to be made in order to find what wo...
