Less than a mile east of the beautiful Rogue River, kindergarten through fifth grade students begin their education at Parkside Elementary. As one of Rockford's smallest public elementary schools, Parkside promotes focused learning and teamwork. A small student population and average class size help students connect with experienced and highly rated teachers. Advanced academic programming for accelerated learning and a diverse continuum of special education programs are just a few reasons Parkside Elementary is recognized as a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School. The brick building on Lewis Street was constructed in 1954. Like many historic school buildings, multiple renovations have allowed teachers to deliver their lessons with state-of-the-art technology. Improvements have also been made to the school’s programs with a new focus on wellness, evidenced by the Developing Healthy Kids Campaign. The campaign promotes mental health awareness and aims to prevent suicide in children of all ages. It was founded in 2011 and continues with the help of other impactful organizations, Like the Rockford Education Foundation and Families Against Narcotics. With care offered before and after school, students at Parkside Elementary can nurture friendships and extend learning moments with peers. West Michigan’s beauty, the local ecosystem and trails at the Rogue River provide an exciting backdrop for students as they begin their academic careers.
