Theodore Roosevelt High School opened in 1923 and is located just north of I-235 in the Waveland Park neighborhood. The high school is home to more than 2,000 students in grades nine through 12 and 68 full-time staff. Roosevelt High is one of five high schools in the Des Moines Public School District and is known as one of the most diverse high schools in the state of Iowa. It is also notable for its historic architecture, which has seen renovation and technological upgrades in recent years.
The Roosevelt Riders belong to the Central Iowa Metro League (CIML) and participate in 35 different sports seasons throughout the year. They have had a history of success, winning state championships in tennis, cross country, swimming and gymnastics, to name a few.
The school has a host of other activities available for students, including band, choir, dance and theater, along with 16 other unique clubs.
Roosevelt is known as a place of inclusivity, welcoming different backgrounds, lifestyles, beliefs and viewpoints. Students in the district speak more than 30 different languages.
Named for US President Theodore Roosevelt, the school is focused on educating tomorrow’s leaders.

I have had a very good experience on being accepted and not judged by my peers and teachers, but our state puts almost no funding into our school. It has a great environment but many parts and departments of our school needs upgrades to reach full potential. Many underserved children go to this school and deserve to have just as much resources as schools in near areas like Waukee school district.

It was okay, I didn't really go to Roosevelt as much since I went to academy more. The teachers are pretty good and you can definitely find people and activities that you like.

I enjoyed my high school experience but maybe I had slightly less involvement than most. I had very supportive teachers and classmates. We did have fights in the hallways occasionally but I never felt unsafe in my school.

I think the results speak for themselves. Roosevelt USED to be a good school, it is now consistently under-performing. Too much focus on woke and unimportant issues and not enough on providing children with a solid education and discipline. I have no idea how the current principal got the position,...

I would rate my school experience at that school excellent because a lot of the students there cared about each other and in helping each other learn without being mean to each other.
