Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep Middle School — otherwise known as NP3 Middle School — builds relationships, focuses on academic rigor, and holds students to high standards. Located in northwest Sacramento’s Sundance Lake neighborhood, this charter school has been around since 2009 and teaches grades six through eight. What distinguishes NP3 Middle School from others in the area is its enrichment activities. Sixth graders can attend science camp, which combines adventure sports like ziplining and rock climbing with nature and environmental education. Seventh graders have the chance to put on a career fair, during which they hear from professionals from a variety of backgrounds — medicine, law enforcement and state senate. Finally, eighth graders can go on a field trip to New York City and Washington D.C. Other enrichment classes focus on leadership skills, environmental protection, mindfulness and yoga, engineering challenges, forensic science, coding, tutoring, gardening and world languages. There’s even “Pirate Idol” for singers, like the similarly named TV show. Students may also join a student-led organization, such as the Pop Culture Club or Disc Golf Club. Academically, NP3 Middle School ranks within the top 30 percent of all schools in California for overall test scores. Furthermore, a 20-to-one student-to-teacher ratio ensures that pupils receive the individualized attention they need. This is my son’s first year at NP3 (6th grade). The teachers and staff are absolutely amazing. The amount of support for students for academics and even socially, is incredible. My son is absolutely thriving at this school.
