My best experiences were the ones I made on my own. I enjoyed being part of sports teams but for females they are really lacking.

Great performing arts programs. Many in that program in my grade came to the school just b/c of it & in spite of the bad reputation. Everything else is going downhill. Standards based grading is horrible & not being done right. Most teachers are great though. Admin now cancels many AP courses, but if you can take APs you will get an excellent education. Many clubs have been ruined by the extended schedule b/c students in sports can't do clubs. General atmosphere was good but new admin is on a power trip of "we can & will do whatever we want" instead of team approach Some sports have turned into a toxic culture. The school used to avoid the jock/brain/arts/tech/JROTC divisions b/c they are the same students across many areas. I don't think the new principal knows they are creating divisions b/c they wouldn't do that on purpose. Showing major favoritism to sports while undermining other things is bound to create division. My sport may benefit but the culture shift is sad.

Great variety in art and extracurricular classes. Wonderful vocational program and decent core classes. Even if I didn't enjoy every class I was in, it was great to have the opportunity to take them.

As a teacher at Salem High School for more than 10 years, I have found the school community to be a supportive and respectful space. Many teachers offer extra hours beyond what is required to offer students extra help and support. We offer an extensive amount and variety of curricular and extracurri...

There are teachers here who truely care about their students and making sure they are learning and then there are teachers who are here because of tenure. The teachers who love their job stick out and they make their classes interesting and easy to learn in the enviroment they create.

This school, like so many, will reward and educate those who put in the required effort. If one does not attend class or is consistently late than they will run into difficulty. Every year students from Salem end up everywhere from the Ivy League to the military to prison. It is what you make of it.

not a student but the teachers and administration DID NOT support me, rather not go into details, but Salem High is THE WORST school I have had the displeasure of being associated with!
