Built in the early 1950s, Florence Elementary services San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, offering classes for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The school's facilities have seen a number of upgrades throughout the years, including new security doors installed in the main building as well as comprehensive air conditioning installed in 2018. The faculty also plans to put up exterior fencing around the facilities in spring of 2022. In addition to practical upgrades, the school also facilitates a positive learning environment by posting inspirational messages and colorful posters throughout the campus.
Florence Elementary is located in the heart of Hillcrest and is easily accessible through State Route 163 and Interstate 5. In addition to following the standard public school curriculum, Florence also offers before- and after-school care for children of busy parents. The school has a preschool, classes for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students, and an English learner program. Children with special needs will also find special education opportunities for those with mild to moderate disabilities.
Students looking to get involved with leadership can join the student council and safety patrol, while Florence also connects its pupils to a number of community service opportunities. The school ranks at #44 across San Diego Unified School District elementary schools, and maintains a smaller size with just over 200 students enrolled each year.
