Part of Tri County Area Schools, Sand Lake Elementary School welcomes third through fifth graders. The district was formed in 1962 when the Sand Lake and Howard City districts merged as part of the School Reorganization Plan to meet federal and state education department requirements. Students from Kent, Montcalm and Newaygo counties can attend Tri County schools. The curriculum is based on the Michigan Department of Education Common Core State Standards and follows the Michigan Continuous Improvement Plans. Enrichment activities include music, movement, art and technology to supplement the core academic training provided by experienced teachers. Child care is offered before and after school, and summer programming expands educational opportunities. In summer, students meet at MacNaughton Elementary School, just under 10 miles north, for exploratory experiences in science, physical exercise and outdoor play. Sand Lake Elementary is one of only two elementary schools in Tri County and has smaller class sizes than the state average. The school is dedicated to connecting students to broader programs in the surrounding counties. The welcoming campus is located on the southern edge of the village of Sand Lake, just beside its namesake lake.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
