Edison Language Academy is a Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District Dual Immersion Elementary School, a public kindergarten through fifth grade magnet school with approximately 425 students offering bilingual education. Edison has earned state and national awards of excellence, having been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the US Department of Education and as a Title I Academic Achievement School by the California State Department of Education, which named Edison as a 2020 California Distinguished School. All students from preschool through fifth grade master curriculum in Spanish and English, with the goal of developing proficiency in both languages and learn to take pride in their own identities and cultures while being respectful of others. “It takes a village,” and Edison’s highly engaged parent community includes more than 200 trained parent volunteers who support the school in strengthening its students’ academic success in all subjects, including its social-emotional curriculum and the newly introduced programs in mindfulness, problem solving and leadership skills. A particular focus is on writing in both languages and building students’ problem solving and computation skills in math, and the STEM program takes advantage of Edison’s Edible School Garden. SMMUSD superintendent Dr. Ben Drati told the Santa Monica Mirror, “Edison is a great example of a school where the principal, teachers, staff and parents all work together toward student success. We are proud that they have been recognized in California and nationally as an exemplary school.”

We couldn't be happier. Wish all kids had the opportunity to be in such a supportive and well rounded environment.

Love Edison. Learning spanish has given my daughter so much confidence. I have a great deal of respect for the teachers that we have had (Tejeda (1st) and Meade (K)) - they care deeply for their kids. They are patient, hard-working and treat the children with respect. The school has its flaws. but o...

Wonderful school, great community. Amazing teachers. Kids really are learning Spanish. I have been disillusioned by the principal, but otherwise a wonderful school.
