Known as Little Red School House, Santa Clara Elementary is a historic landmark that has been updated for the 21st century. The Santa Clara School dates back to 1879, fewer than 30 years after California statehood. The structure currently housing the elementary school was built in 1896, and the school has been in continuous operation since its founding. The elementary school serves students from kindergarten through sixth grade.
Located in a rural area between Fillmore and Santa Paula on Highway 126, the school is part of the small Santa Clara School District which has fewer than 60 students in total. The district has three teachers, one who also serves as superintendent and principal. Additional staff includes two part-time instructional aides as well as part-time P.E. and art teachers and contracted services.
With a 22-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, Santa Clara Elementary is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment that encourages learning, development of critical thinking and self-expression. 85% of the students score above the state average for reading.
