Designed by renowned Phoenix architect Ralph Haver, Hohokam Elementary School opened in 1959, just in time to serve the population swell of South Scottsdale’s mid-century housing boom.
Recently, the school completed a multi-million-dollar modernization to better serve students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades as part of the Scottsdale Unified School District.
With a blend of historic architecture and modern design, this public school now looks completely transformed. The campus has a new lobby and cafeteria, state-of-the-art Wi-Fi, closed-circuit television, and thoughtful design and upgrades throughout the facility. Outdoors, students and staff enjoy pleasant landscaping and a new, shaded amphitheater.
An impressive student-teacher ratio of 10:1, which is nearly half the state average, enables Hohokam teachers to dedicate more individual attention to students than many schools in the area.
Likely in part due to this extra attention, Hohokam students achieve test scores in reading and math significantly above the state average, helping the school rank among the top elementary schools in Arizona.
Outside of the core curriculum, students also can excel in visual arts, music, band, chorus, and orchestra, as well as a gifted program. In addition, a robust after-school program offers enrichment classes in a range of interests, from dance and robotics to golf and athletics — so everyone can choose their own paths for success.
