The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
The Test Score Rating reflects annual state test results for this school compared with scores statewide.

The teachers are very helpful and are always looking to help further students academic careers. Another wonderful aspect is the community and how close most of the students and teachers are. One of the jarring negatives is the lack of clubs with most of the students after school activities being sports.

I have gone to George W. Long since kindergarten and I just finished my senior year there so I have seen all the ways it has changed over the years and how it could improve. I loved going to one school my whole life and it makes it easier to build friendships since I was basically with the friends I made in kindergarten all the way through my senior year. The faculty was always nice to me and I never saw them be mean to any one so it felt like a safe space to be. We were also very fortunate to never have been in and life threatening situations. I would love to see them find a balance between sports and academics. Some years it felt like all they wanted was sports to go to nationals and others they didn't seem to care and wanted our academics to stand out. Other than that George W. Long is a great school to attend.
Most of the teachers here are great. The class schedules are great. The problem is with the 3 at the top. Barrentine, Miller, and Watts. They are equally disrespectful school boys that mentally never made it past high school. They are bullies and say disrespectful things to students and deny it when...
The school and teachers are great but when you factor in the principle, Daniel Barrentine, well then it would make it a -5. Yes he has received a “principle of the year” award (why?!) and the school has great stats but the students are the ones make the stats good. This principle is a condensing bul...
I would rate my experience three out of ten. The favorites are solely based on of you are part of the Long or Hughes family. That is how people get into sports mainly. I am not part of those families, therefore my experience has been much less than ideal.
I attended G. W. Long K-12 and I would not have it any other way. The teachers care about each and every student. They helped make me the person I am today. When I finally have kids I would not want them to grow up anywhere else. Not only is it a great school but it is supported by a great community...
