Sleepy Hollow High School is a prominent public high school in the neighboring village of Sleepy Hollow with excellent academics, generous extracurricular programs and celebrated sports teams. Serving the villages of both Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, the impressive, red-brick edifice of the school building stands on a ridgeline on North Broadway, overlooking the scenic Hudson River Valley. The school enrolls around 900 students in grades nine through 12 and has a student-teacher ratio of 12-to-1, which allows for smaller class sizes and more individualized instruction. Beyond participation in National Honor Society, the school offers various other honor society chapters for foreign languages, math, art, English, social studies, science and music. Advanced Placement courses and classes in art, media, performing arts, band and orchestra help bolster the core curriculum and provide a well-rounded and rigorous education for each student. The school also has a film festival and a radio station, which fosters a sense of belonging among students and a stronger school community. Athletic programs emphasize academic achievement, with the school being recognized as a School of Distinction by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. Fall sports include football, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball and cheerleading, while the spring season offers baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball and track, with added winter programs in basketball, ice hockey, skiing and wrestling. The school’s mascot is undoubtedly the most frightening in all of high school sports, with the “Headless Horseman” riding at every homecoming game.

My school is complicated, nobody gets the same experience. It's all about the people you meet along your high school journey. My best experiences with the school have been with the friends I made from sports, clubs, and classes. Without them, school would be boring and just a lot of work, that doesn't sound like a life worth living to me. But don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean that I don't care about the educational part of school because that's very important to me. That's why I wouldn't say I like how my school skimps out on the major details when it comes to things after high school, especially things you should know when becoming an adult. Things like taxes, scholarships, and what I feel to be the root of the problems, the misinformation, or rather the lack of clarification of the weight of this information and its many possibilities. SHHS is diverse but they just need to be direct with all their student and just say it how it is, there's no point in dancing around the truth.

I really enjoyed the educational aspect and the extra-curricular activities that Sleepy Hollow High School had to offer but I struggled a lot in the social department, experiencing bullying and being left out often with no intervention from teachers which left me feeling alone and misunderstood, leading to mental health issues.

I love the spirit that shines through all the staff and students every day at this school. This school feels like more of a family than a community. There is always someone to talk to if you are feeling down or having any problems.

This is a terrific school. My three daughters attended (two are still there) and have greatly benefitted from the personal and inclusive atmosphere. The principal is a wise and compassionate leader who literally knows every child by name in this vast pool of kids. This is a highly diverse group, eth...

My school is fantastic because staff connects with the student body, they are always there when you need extra help and one of the things that seperate Sleepy Hollow from other school is a strong belief in community, I am an eleventh grade student who is truly luck to be part of this school besides...
