Named for a prominent late 19th and early 20th century New Orleans educator and philanthropist, Sophie B. Wright Charter School defines its mission as “creating a community of empowered learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.” The renovated Collegiate Gothic style building that was built on Uptown’s Napoleon Avenue in 1912 maintains its historic integrity while meeting modern needs. About 500 co-ed students are enrolled in sixth through 12th grades. The school opened as part of the Recovery School District, which was formed to improve the lowest-performing schools in Louisiana. The Louisiana Department of Education website lists the school’s overall grade for the 2018-2019 school year as a “B”. However, the school states that it considers individual developmental needs to optimize student success. And students are provided with research-based instruction, along with dual enrollment with local colleges and universities To round out the education experience, Sophie B. Wright Charter School students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as dance team, cheerleaders, majorettes, marching band, flag team and student council. Home of the Warriors and a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, Sophie B. Wright Charter School invites its student athletes to compete in football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and track and field.

My personal experience at Sophie B Wright Institute of Academic Excellence was pretty good but also had a few down sides. The teachers were great minus a few who's classes may have been a bit challenging but that's not their fault and some staff members tend to have attitudes but most were pleasant.

Not the best place to send your child/ children. 6/10 wouldn't recommend, doesn't do the best with preparing kids for college.

Constantly changed rules around, failed to acknowledge teachers who harassed students. Favoritism both in the office and classroom makes it very hard to make grades that you deserve. School counselors are constantly quitting and barely doing their jobs.

This is my daughter's first year at the school. She was very apprehensive about attending initially, but she has settled in well and loves it. We both love that her teachers are encouraging and motivate her as well as see her potential and taylor her learning to her academic needs. The principal is...
