The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
The Test Score Rating reflects annual state test results for this school compared with scores statewide.

Being in this school for all 4 years has had a big impact on my life mentality and academically. The staff here are really chill with the students and so are the teachers. My best experience I have had here was at the football games. The worst experience I have had here was when the lunch line always gets packed and so many people start getting fussy. Honesty I would really like to see this school have a better football program.

South El Monte High is not the best school to attend; things like safety and staff are not the greatest. Though I had things I enjoyed as well, like the teachers, most of these teachers want us to succeed and will help us as much as possible. Another thing is AVID. AVID is great for scholars who want to get accepted into their dream colleges. Other than that, there has been more bad than good. Overall, I overcame all of the negative attributes in this school to be who I am today.

At South El Monte High School I found comfort and a community in many clubs and classes. The support and help was always present, whenever needed. The experiences and connection I have in this school are the most precious things I could have gained from this high school. However, not every school is perfect and although the less memorable moments have been with other students, I have learned that not everyone is on the same path and nor should I treat anyone less than I would like them to treat me.
