Located in northern Pine Point in a beautiful old brick building built in 1932, Hiram L. Dorman Elementary is a small community school serving kindergarten through fifth grade students. Dorman’s philosophy is centered around collaboration. Support from the National Education Association helps build relationships between district and school officials, parents and the community to help meet the needs of its students and improve school culture, instruction and student behavior. The school and community have collaborated on additional programs that help address students’ various needs, including extracurricular and summer literacy programs, the Home Visit Project, Getting Ready for Kindergarten and the Talk, Read, Succeed program. These programs have ensured that most Dorman students reach reading proficiency by third grade. Additionally, Dorman has a full-time Parent Facilitator who works with parents and guardians to ensure they stay involved and are aware of any social programs that may benefit their children. Dorman Elementary also works with the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, which helps fund professional development workshops and field trips, and even provides bussing to and from the museum in nearby Amherst, Massachusetts.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
