The Springfield High School of Science and Technology, known as Sci-Tech, is one of Springfield’s magnet schools and home to the Cybercats. It welcomed its first group of students in 1996. Sci-Tech students begin their studies in STEM Academy, a hands-on, project-based approach where science, technology, engineering and math are integrated into the entire curriculum. During 11th and 12th grade, students can prepare for careers in Healthcare Sciences, Information Technology, Film and Media, Engineering or Finance, or enroll in AfterDark, a joint program with nearby Putnam Vocational Technical High School. Students in AfterDark focus on STEM academics at Sci-Tech in the morning and attend Putnam in the afternoon to apply their new skills to a trade of their choice. Sci-Tech also offers several advanced placement courses for students preparing for college. Sci-Tech’s music program, which includes choir and band, is renowned throughout the region. Known as the Pride of Springfield, the band performs at both school and community events around Springfield each year. The school has sent more students to the University of Massachusetts Honor Band Festival than any school that has participated. Some students come to Sci-Tech specifically for the program, and alums often return to play with the band during special events. What began with 20 students in 2007 now has over 500 members. The athletics program at Sci-Tech is also popular, and students can compete in basketball, football, wrestling, field hockey, ice hockey, soccer, volleyball, and cheerleading.

my experience was like a normal high school experience. it wasn't like high school musical the movie but I made amazing friends, lost a couple but overall the school made me feel included in everything.

I enjoyed my high school experience mainly because I joined the band and made amazing connections with people and had great opportunities for performances. This is the largest program in that school and is full of talented students who in turn effect the student body positively. I wouldn't do it all over because there are many other aspects of this school that aren't so enjoyable. The way the system is set up can be pretty ridiculous and I feel students aren't challenged intellectually to prepare for college.

It be cool if the food was better, and teachers are ok its just some of them are a bit bad. The diversity is ok sometimes I feel left out since there aren't so many of my kind in the school but I'm ok with that. This school doesn't really do that much activities especially field trips or dress down day.

I feel the school was left open for a lot a changes. I fought hard for school uniforms but was told it was impossible (it's now a standard in the Springfield Schools, yay!). I brought a lot of ideas to the table as a student and was told they simply weren't possible. I know this school can do more f...
