A private Catholic school located on Stevens Avenue in Portland, St. Brigid School educates students prekindergarten through eighth grade. With roots stretching back to 1915, this faith-based school prides itself on small class sizes that allow for personalized instruction during a student’s most formative years in their early education.
St. Brigid emphasizes religion, social studies, language and fine arts, handwriting and computer literacy in its curriculum, in addition to a focus on STEM learning in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and math. Spanish is taught to all students beginning in prekindergarten, while seventh and eighth graders can choose between Latin and Spanish.
All St. Brigid students attend a weekly mass, and the school encourages students to be involved in community service. Athletics offered at St. Brigid include soccer and cross country. The school has partnered with the local Midcoast School of Music to offer music and voice lessons.
Students attending St. Brigid School wear uniforms, and the school asks that parents of attending students commit to volunteering at least 25 hours per school year.
