With a renovated campus that opened in 2021, McKemy Academy of International Studies is a public middle school serving students in sixth through eighth grade in the Tempe School District.
At this International Baccalaureate World School, faculty are tasked with inspiring excellence and cultivating compassion to nurture leaders for a global future. Here, students thrive with a curriculum that integrates action, service, personal projects, and community projects so they can develop international-mindedness.
While at McKemy, all students create and present their own service-learning project that addresses a topic or challenge in the global community. And in addition to core subjects, students can explore philosophy in the humanities, attain fitness in physical and health education, and grow creatively in the visual and performing arts.
When it comes to extracurriculars, the academy offers a foreign language club, Student Action Committee, theater, and yearbook. Plus, aspiring athletes can compete as McKemy Tigers in a number of seasonal interscholastics, including baseball, basketball, cross country, flag football, soccer, softball, spiritline, and volleyball.
In and out of the classroom, students challenge each other to think critically, be problem-solvers, and find solutions to fashion a better world together when they go to McKemy Academy of International Studies.

Tempe Preparatory Academy is a wonderful school with an amazing academic program. I highly suggest this school to students who love a challenge and want to be well prepared for college!

I’ve been a student here for a while, and I absolutely love it! Great teachers and students. Everybody here is really nice, and I haven’t witnessed any bullying. I’ve been to four different middle schools, and by far this has been my favorite. I will definitely be finishing middle school here!
