Tuckahoe Elementary is the primary elementary school for East Falls Church residents. Its mission is to develop responsible, life-long learners by providing quality education through inquiry-based, differentiated, and multi-sensory instruction in a nurturing environment that maximizes classroom, outdoor, and technological resources. The school was constructed in 1953 with 16 classrooms, a library, and several smaller rooms. It has an active Parent Teacher Association, provides an after-school program, and has a school bus service for students living more than one mile from the facility. Its faculty believes that showing respect, being responsible, and remembering the rights of others promotes good citizenship. Using the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching, educators believe that social and academic programs are equally important. They focus as much on how children learn as what they learn. Its classroom communities develop an environment where everyone can learn, feel safe, and have fun. Tuckahoe's Discovery Schoolyard program provides a creative and innovative way to meet the needs of the whole child by using the schoolyard as a context for integrating the APS curriculum and providing cross-graded experiences. Tuckahoe Elementary also serves as a sister school to Matuwa Primary School in Uganda, providing students with a global educational perspective.

Our child has attended two public elementary schools in Arlington, both equally highly rated. While he had a good experience at both schools, his experience at Tuckahoe has been superior. We've found the teachers to be more attentive at Tuckahoe than our previous school. They listen more. Our child gets more personalized attention - he is happy, and therefore so are we.

Our overall experience has been amazing so far. My son has thrived at Tuckahoe due to a great extent to the excellent teachers, very engaged principal and a wonderful community. The PTA is very engaged but also laid back, and constantly making improvements - the brand new pond and bridge are the lat...

This school is average at best. The only reason kids do well on tests is as a result of the upper-middle class, professional neighborhood this school is located in. Awesome parent community but that's where it stops. Teachers are hit and miss. Leadership is highly ineffective. As mentioned previousl...
