Located near the heart of the Blue Dome District in downtown Tulsa, Okla., Sankofa School of Creative and Performing Arts is a charter school that serves a student body of around 87 students in third through fifth grade. Ranked as one of the top charter elementary schools in the state, students have a focus on academic excellence as well as the creative arts. As a charter school, Sankofa curriculum can be tailored to fit student needs, and teachers are always evaluating progress in the classroom. Typical core classes consist of reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Students can also participate in a number of creative and performing arts as well as cultural enrichment programs. The goal of the teachers and staff at Sankofa is not only to empower students to excel academically but also to embrace their strengths, continue to build on those strengths and become the best versions of themselves. Many students at Sankofa graduate from the fifth grade and go on to attend impressive magnet programs like Carver, Edison and Thoreau.
