Established in 1960 and home of the Lions, Nevada Avenue Elementary provides an academic curriculum to students in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Nevada Avenue is a public Title I school and is located on Chase Street in West Hills. The school enrolls approximately 380 students and serves kindergarten through fifth grade.
Core classes taught in Nevada Avenue Elementary include reading, science, math, social studies and language arts. Students can take electives in physical education, art and music. Classes in the arts include visual arts and vocal music. The school offers special needs programs and an early childhood education program for transitional kindergarten. In addition, Nevada Avenue Elementary provides an extended aftercare program with fun activities, homework support and snacks.
Nevada Avenue Elementary also offers a special education program that supports students with tutoring, resources and additional assistance. The school counselor is also available to help support students with academic and socio-emotional needs. After-school activities include being part of the woodcraft rangers or participating in youth services.
