A room with a view

Residents in Fauntleroy experience a tranquil lifestyle with stunning views of Puget Sound. "Considering its relative isolation from the busier parts of Seattle, it's no surprise that the vibe in Fauntleroy is mellow," says Sotheby's International Realty's Sandra Hines, a Realtor/associate broker who lives in West Seattle. The biggest draw to the area is Lincoln Park, which is walkable from many parts of the neighborhood. "There's 1 to 1½ miles of waterfront for people to enjoy, just steps from home," says John L. Scott Real Estate Realtor Jonn McYnturff, a 21-year real estate veteran who lives in the northwestern section of Seattle. The neighborhood is also home to the Fauntleroy-Southworth Ferry, which connects locals to Vashon Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.

Community with many personalities

Fauntleroy comprises flat areas with wide streets and sidewalks, as well as a hilly region with narrow winding roads that lack sidewalks. Fauntleroy features different architectural styles depending on the home’s age and location. “There’s a mix of everything,” McYnturff says. “There’s a midcentury subdivision. You’ll also find Tudors, Craftsman and contemporary-style homes, many of which have views of the water and the Olympic Mountains.” Prices range from the more budget-friendly $573,000 to $3.9 million. For $625,000, a buyer can get a 1,290-square-foot two-bedroom, one-bath home that sits on just over 1/8 of an acre. A $2.5 million price tag offers a 1,610-square-foot waterfront home with two bedrooms and two baths.

A multipurpose park

Locals refer to Lincoln Park, less than ¼ mile walk via surface streets, as Seattle's most multipurpose park, Hines says. The amenities include a play area, hiking trails, bike trails, a boat launch and picnic sites. Across the street from the Fauntleroy ferry dock is Fauntleroy Park, a heavily forested 32.9-acre park with a network of hiking and dog-walking trails and paths. It is also the point from where Fauntleroy Creek be

Markets serve as eateries

"Fauntleroy is an overwhelmingly residential community," Hines says. "Its business area consists of just a few small businesses up the street from the ferry dock," Hines says. There are a few noteworthy dining spots in the area, including Endolyn Joe's, which features rotating special menus from around the world, plus regional American comfort food. Wildwood Market, less than a mile's drive on local roads, is a combination market and restaurant where residents can order meals and stock up on staples. Another market/restaurant is West Seattle Thriftway, A 1.3-mile drive on local streets. The eatery sells a broad selection of products and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Birdhouse is a neighborhood coffee shop where patrons can get handcrafted lattes and made-to-order breakfast sandwiches.

Close to downtown

There are a few bus stops in the community; however, McYnturff says that locals primarily rely on their cars for commuting: "Downtown Seattle is only a 15-minute drive." Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is an 11-mile drive via Washington State Route 509 South.
