Large peninsula with a lot to offer
North Tacoma is a larger peninsula that attracts many buyers for its abundant amenities. There’s plenty of outdoor recreation, diverse housing selection and multiple options for commuting to and from Seattle and Tacoma. “I love the feel of it. The people and every house is different. You’re surrounded by beautiful property with its own character and charm,” says Tim McKeown, realtor at Windermere Chambers Bay and North Tacoma resident. “It’s a city but doesn’t seem too crowded. There’s adequate space.” Throughout the area are several subdivisions that include highly walkable streets and charming restaurants. Walking by the water can be a daily activity, thanks to the walkway along Ruston Way and Point Defiance Park.

Craftsman-style dominates
Homes in North Tacoma vary among single-family homes and condos. However, there are more apartments than condos. Condos are often located closer to the shores, providing fun morning water views. Two bedrooms can cost from $295,000 to over $1.4 million for a luxurious condo. “If you’re coming from Seattle and the North, it’s more bang for your buck,” says Tim McKeown, realtor at Windermere Chambers Bay. “It's a better deal in Tacoma, and it could be a larger home.” Single-family housing varies, but the most popular style is Craftsman. Craftsmen vary between one-stories bungalow styles to two-stories mansion-like properties on the coast. These prices range from $400,000 to $2 million for two stories with larger yard space and water views. Contemporaries, specifically Pacific Northwest Contemporary styles, are priced over $1 million. Traditional homes range from $535,000 to over $1 million.
