Valdosta Home Trends

Valdosta State University usually attracts people to town, but a drop in home prices combined with a low cost of living and lower mortgage rates has sparked significant growth over the past year. The average home price in Valdosta is $117,200 and the average mortgage rate is $555. Nicknamed Azalea City, an abundance of azalea bushes blooms every spring in Valdosta, which adds to the city's scenery. Five Points and Highland Heights are two popular neighborhoods in Valdosta. Highland Heights has a suburban feel with ranch-style and mid-size traditional houses for sale. Five Points rests just north of Valdosta State University and is filled with restaurants, specialty shops, and grocers. Other architectural styles in Valdosta include mid-size Colonials and large Spanish-style homes. The town also has multiple plots of land for sale, with new construction houses currently underway.

Valdosta Attractions

Known as the heart of South Georgia, Valdosta is a charming, rural-like town with modern amenities. Wild Adventures is Valdosta's biggest family-friendly attraction, with a zoo and amusement park. You'll find locals and visitors alike enjoying the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts and Grand Bay Wildlife Management Area, a sprawling park. Like many Georgia towns, Valdosta is a popular shooting locale for television shows and films, so the Valdosta Film Tour is another main attraction. Along with a farmers market, Valdosta hosts some of the region's most popular events including the Valdosta-Lowndes Azalea Festival and the South Georgia Film Festival, held at Valdosta State University each year. Great for day trips, Valdosta is also just a short drive from major cities including Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Savannah, and Orlando.

Valdosta Schools

Valdosta has 19 public schools, one charter school, and nine public schools. Dewar Elementary School, Lowndes High School, and Scintilla Charter Academy are some of the best schools in the city. The city is best known for being home to Valdosta State University, a public university. VSU's most popular programs include Biology, Nursing, Mass Media, Marketing, and Criminal Justice. Along with affordability and a small student-to-teacher ratio (21:1), Valdosta is known for its award-winning campus design. Palms, pines, camellias, azaleas, and vast green space dot the campus. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Georgia Military College are also located in town.

Commuting in Valdosta

Valdosta is the largest city in South Georgia and has an incredible commute of only 18 minutes. The main mode of transportation is by vehicle and carpooling is common. Thanks to Valdosta State University, several areas of town are very pedestrian-friendly. Residents can use Interstate 75 or Route 22 to travel north towards Atlanta or south towards Florida. The town is currently working on adding more options for public transportation like Via, an on-demand transit system that launched in April 2021. Similar to rideshare services, residents can request service via an app. Valdosta Regional Airport provides flights to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, providing access to hundreds of domestic and international flights.
