The schools include Creeds Elementary, which was rated an A-minus by Niche, followed by Princess Anne Middle School and Kellam High School, both A-rated schools. “The schools are definitely a draw to the area,” Fox says. “The elementary school, right in the middle of Pungo, is the oldest of Virginia Beach’s elementary schools. It’s also the smallest in the city, so you get a real family feel.”

Explore Munden Point Park
Pungo residents have more than just the beach for nearby outdoor fun. At Munden Point Park, a vast 100-acre green space on the North Landing River, visitors can spend time at one of the park’s many playgrounds, basketball courts, picnic areas or riverfront fishing spots. For a bite to eat in the area, there’s Pungo Pizza and Ice Cream, a local favorite for tasty New York-style pizza and garlic knots – one of their most popular menu items. Despite its slogan, "The Locals’ Secret," folks from all over Virginia Beach love Pungo’s family-owned Blue Pete’s Restaurant, where they’ve enjoyed fresh seafood, waterfront views and Pungo-style hospitality since 1972. Pungo’s much-loved Strawberry Festival is a long-standing tradition that has drawn crowds to its carnival rides, parade and everything strawberries. “Anything you can imagine that can be made with strawberries is there, even strawberry cotton candy,” Fox says. Area residents also enjoy participating in the annual Virginia Beach 4-H Livestock Show & Sale, where youngsters aged nine to 19 from local farming families show the pigs, sheep, goats or cattle they’ve raised with the hope of winning coveted first place.

Running through the heart of Pungo is Princess Anne Road, one of Virginia Beach’s main thoroughfares and which gives commuters access to major roads like Dam Neck and General Booth Boulevard. It also gives them access to key parts of the city like Dam Neck Naval Base, Oceana Naval Air Station, Interstate 264 and the lively Virginia Beach oceanfront, all of which are 10 miles or less from Pungo.
