Coastal residential township with popular dining
Before Weehawken, a coastal New Jersey township, became known for its unparalleled views of the New York City skyline, it was the site of the fatal duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr in 1804. During the American Revolutionary War, the area was used as a lookout location for the Hudson River. It was officially formed in 1859 and was originally a tourist destination before the construction of subdivisions to accommodate a growing population. "Weehawken is a suburban area with some urban traits," says Corey Jones, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty, who’s been selling homes in the area for nearly 30 years. The township today mostly retains its residential identity while also offering a handful of shopping and dining hubs.

Condos and Victorian-style homes
Unlike neighboring Hoboken and Jersey City, Weehawken doesn't have high-rise buildings due to efforts by local officials to limit building heights and preserve Weehawken's views of Manhattan. Housing here includes single-family homes, co-ops and condominiums. Victorian and Tudor-style homes sell for $600,000 to $800,000, while estates near the waterfront go for as much as $6 million. Nearby condo communities offer one, two and three-bedroom units that sell anywhere from $600,000 to $2.5 million.
There are plenty of options for luxury apartment and condo living in Weehawken.

Shopping and dining along Park Avenue
In the township’s north end, Park Avenue is the main thoroughfare with a Lidl grocery store and local eateries like Charrito’s, a Mexican restaurant that opened its first location back in 1992. A retail center with Whole Foods Market sits along Waterfront Terrace. The center has a few restaurants as well, including Chart House, a high-end seafood chain in the middle of the Hudson. “The restaurant boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, providing diners with a great view of the Manhattan skyline during their meal,” says Jones.
