Former railroad town turned into a vibrant Atlanta bedroom community
Once a sleepy railroad town, Acworth was the first northern water stop on the Western and Atlantic Railroad from Atlanta and was initially known as Northcutt Station. Eventually, it was renamed Acworth. It reminded railroad engineer Joseph Gregg that he decided to rename it Acworth because it reminded him of his hometown in New Hampshire by the same name. Today, it has become a vibrant bedroom community about 33 miles north of downtown Atlanta. “Acworth has everything you need, says Adelita Serna, a Realtor and associate broker for the Serna Team with eXp Realty with more than 15 years of experience. “There are multiple shopping centers, there is great outdoor recreation around Lake Altoona, and it is close to the mountains. For those who commute into the city for work, it has convenient access to Interstate 75, and it is about an hour's drive.”

Wide range of homes scattered across the city
The homes in Acworth are scattered throughout the entire city, and location will determine specific architectural styles. Buyers can find neighborhoods that line one of the many golf courses that feature brick Craftsman homes and Colonial Revivals with built-in garages on plush lots highlighted by tall trees and shrubbery. Closer to downtown, the styles are more reflective of midcentury, with ranch homes and bungalows, some of which are located near Lake Acworth. There is a chance to purchase new construction Craftsman homes in new developments in the western part of town. Buyers can expect a midcentury property to sell for around $350,000, while a home in a golf course community may sell for around $850,000. “People look to move out here because you get more bang for your buck. You can get larger square footage homes that you would be paying way more for in the city,” Serna says.

Multiple school paths in the Cobb County School District
Acworth is part of the Cobb County School District, which earns an A-minus on Niche and has more than 106,000 students, making it the second-largest district in Georgia and the 23rd-largest in the country. There are multiple school paths throughout the area, but some children will attend McCall Primary School, which earns an A-minus and then Acworth Intermediate, rated a B, to complete elementary school, advance to the B-plus rated Barber Middle School, and then earn diplomas from North Cobb High School. North Cobb grades as an A-minus and is the district’s magnet school for international studies.
McCall Primary School is ranked the 54th most diverse public elementary school in Georgia.
Acworth Elementary serves in the Cobb County School District.
North Cobb High serves approximately 2900 students in the Cobb County School District.

Staying active in Acworth
Acworth provides multiple forms of outdoor recreation throughout the city. Logan Farm Park is in the heart of downtown, and the 120-acre green space was recently constructed to be a community hub and green space. When there is no community gathering, the park's playground is popular amongst the youngest residents and it has multi-use paved pathways and pavilions. For those looking to spend a day on Lake Acworth, Cauble Park is on the north shore of the lake and offers beach and water access from June through Labor Day weekend. Golfers are always close to their next round and have multiple options, both private and public. A popular public course is the Cobblestone Golf Course, which underwent a complete renovation in 2010 and is operated by Bobby Jones Links.
Families in Acworth enjoy a day at the beach at Cauble Park.

Shopping in downtown Acworth
Along U.S. Highway 41, known locally as Cobb Parkway Northwest, are multiple shopping centers that feature big box stores like Target, Kohl’s and Michael’s, as well as chain grocers like Kroger. For something a little more local, Downtown Acworth has multiple boutiques, including the Serendipity House, housed in an 1800s Queen Anne Victorian home that sells gifts and décor. To help draw people downtown, the city recently enacted an open container law that allows locals to use a city-approved cup, which can be purchased at a downtown restaurant, to enjoy adult beverages as they peruse only Main Street, which has a variety of shops and restaurants. Downtown also has local restaurants like the Acworth Bookstore and Coffee Shop, which pulls double duty as a café and local book shop, and one of the newer spots in town is 1885 Grill, a southern coastal restaurant.

Residents can grab daily essentials from the local target in Acworth.

Community events at Logan Farm Park
Logan Farm Park is the epicenter for community events in the city. The park is home to the weekly Acworth Farmers Market, which runs on Friday mornings from April to October but is also the site for the city’s more significant events. Each fall, the town gets together and tries to decide which restaurant has the best slice of pizza at the Pizza, Pints and Pigskin Festival or in the spring when the Smoke on the Lake Barbeque Festival is held, featuring live music.
Logan Farm Park is an approximately 120 acre park located in the center of Acworth.

Xpress bus ride to Atlanta and major interstates
Operated by the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority, Xpress is a public bus service that provides residents a weekday ride into downtown Atlanta from either the Town Center Park-and-Ride or the Acworth Park-and-Ride. Commuters can take either Interstate 75 or U.S. Route 41 to downtown Atlanta.
