The Last Frontier of Anchorage neighborhoods
Alaska is known as The Last Frontier, and the Hillside neighborhood in Anchorage embraces that moniker. With mountainous streets and towering trees, homebuyers will feel immersed in the Alaskan countryside. “We have access to a lot of the hiking trails and mountain biking trails, and we have a small ski resort up here. We have the best of all four seasons,” says Richelle Killian, an independent agent with Keller Williams Realty Alaska Group. “Many homes have views downtown, Cook Inlet, and the Sleeping Lady.” While the neighborhood offers an escape into the mountains, the shopping, dining and other amenities of Anchorage are just a short drive west from the neighborhood.

Escape into nature at local Mid-Hillside parks
Mid-Hillside is an ideal neighborhood for spending time outdoors. Far North Bicentennial Park is an expansive natural area in the neighborhood’s northern end, offering 4,000 acres of Alaskan wilderness to explore. Park visitors can hike on trails along Campbell Creek and up the mountains, offering sweeping views of the Anchorage area. Being prepared is important, though, as the park is known to be bear country. Heading south of the neighborhood on Glen Alps Road leads to the Glen Alps/Flattop Trailhead for another popular hike. Flattop Mountain is the most visited peak in Alaska, and the 1.5-mile hike typically takes about an hour. During the winter, the Hilltop Ski Area has 30 acres of groomed and lighted terrain and slopes ranging from easy to difficult. The Alaska Zoo is conveniently located near the neighborhood and has exotic and native animals. Just down the street, the public Anchorage Golf Course is a par-72 course with scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Anchorage receives so much daylight in the summer that golfers can tee off from 5 a.m. to midnight.
