Campus Park - a sanctuary for shopping
Campus Park blooms with vibrant local parks and numerous shopping emporiums about 11 miles southwest of downtown Bakersfield. Campus Park is a haven for convenience home to Gosford Village, a vital sanctuary for one-stop shopping in a suburb where commercial businesses are prominent. "Campus Park is very convenient," says William Gordon, a Bakersfield native who grew up nearby and a Realtor at Watson Realty. "New shopping and dining establishments are popping up all over the place in an area that used to be farther away from those things. People are really seeing the benefit of moving there."
Department stores, restaurants and groceries at Gosford Village
Gosford Village is a premier shopping area in West Bakersfield. Home to department stores like Sam's Club and Kohl's, this commercial center has restaurant chains, retail and a pharmacy on a 73-acre lot in Campus Park. The Marketplace is another area with over 50 retailers, including brand-name shops, restaurants and a movie theater, about 4 miles north. “Gosford Village has all these stores, food places and it’s expanding,” says Katie Vasquez, a specialist at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County. “I grew up in this part of town. It’s very family oriented, and it's a social place to be.” Spencer's Cafe serves a classic American breakfast in a diner decorated in vintage posters. Salty's BBQ offers a menu of smoked meat dishes with a patio or seating inside an old locomotive car. Sorella Ristorante is an Italian steakhouse with seafood pasta dishes in a dim dining room with classical décor. Walmart Supercenter is on Gosford Road, and WinCo Foods is another supermarket on Panama Lane.
The Campus Park Walmart is situated within a spacious shopping center.

Air quality in Bakersfield
Bakersfield is the oil capital of California. Because the city is a base for agriculture, petroleum and oil industries, it can sometimes struggle with air pollution, due to a high volume of days with poor air quality annually. However, steps are being taken to increase air quality, like rebates for electric vehicles through the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
