19th Century Wyndhurst homes off Summit Avenue
Homes in Wyndhurst can often be dated back to the 19th century. “Though often confused with Roland Park, the Wyndhurst neighborhood has a character and charm all its own and is great for those who like beautiful, older homes,” says Fred Golding, a Realtor since 2003 and co-founder of GQ Home Team in the Baltimore area. “Homes in Wyndhurst vary from grand Victorian and Colonial-style homes to brick and wood-framed cottages.” Though there are not many of them within the neighborhood boundaries, several houses have wrap-around porches, tidy lawns and sit on quiet streets. They often will have touches of their original architecture, including slate-tile roofs, decorative shingles and sometimes stained-glass windows. Though most are two-stories, some smaller floor plans are also available. Homes prices here can range between $350,000 and $650,000. Homes near the Stony Run creek may experience some flooding during particularly heavy rain. Two country clubs and the Roland Park Pool
Elkridge Country Club was first a fox hunting club in 1878 but is now a members-only golf club with an 18-hole course, racquet courts and a pool. Though this location’s golf course was closed in 1962, Baltimore Country Club is considered one of the top 50 country clubs in the United States. Members can golf at the Five Farms course 8 miles north on the club’s second campus. “Stony Run is a trail that runs north and south. It’s a great trail if you just want to hike or take your dog for a walk and let them swim in the water. There are morning meetups with dog parents there as well,” Fielder says. Families can spend summer days at the Roland Park Pool and swim club, open only to Roland Park residents and those with memberships. South of town, Sherwood Gardens is a free-admission public garden where locals can stroll through to view springtime tulips and other floral species. The nearby Cylburn Arboretum is free and open to the public year-round. Visitors can explore 200 acres of gardens and trails or host a picnic with friends.Private and public Baltimore schools and universities
Students can first attend Roland Park Elementary and Middle School, which teaches kindergarten through eighth grade and is graded a B-plus on Niche. The school’s Ingenuity Project offers students advanced mathematics and science classes. Students may also choose to attend kindergarten through eighth grade at The School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen private Catholic school, which is graded an A. Students may then attend Forest Park Senior High School, graded a C-minus. The high school provides courses in STEAM studies, intensive literacy, government and environmental science. The private Friends School of Baltimore is rated an A-plus and was established in 1784. It teaches pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades, and teaches a curriculum founded in Quaker principles.Wyndhurst’s convenient location and commutes to downtown Baltimore
Though Wyndhurst is a historic, quiet neighborhood, it’s only about 6 miles north of downtown Baltimore via Keswick Road and Interstate 83. The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is about 15 miles south via Route 295, while the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is about 8 miles southeast via Erdman Avenue. For Wyndhurst students who want to attend Johns Hopkins University, the campus is only 2 miles south. For those who may commute to Washington D.C., it’s about an hour and 20-minute drive, or 46 miles south, via Route 295 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.Long-time Wyndhurst locals businesses and restaurants
Eddie’s of Roland Park is a long-time community staple and gourmet grocery store with grab-and-go sandwiches, crab cakes, soup and fresh produce. Across the street is the renovated Enoch Pratt Free Library, a stunning stone building established in 1924. On Lawndale Avenue is Shananigans Toy Shop, which sells trains, planes and many different toys. Farther down Roland Avenue, folks can spend an evening out at the historic Roland Park Shopping Center, where Petit Louis Bistro serves French cuisine in a Tudor-style cottage with outdoor patio seating. “Johnny’s Cafe, right next to Petit Louis, is a lovely little place. They have high-end coffee and great cocktails,” Fielder says. “They’ve also got a full lunch and dinner menu that changes seasonally because they try to keep their ingredients locally sourced.” For everyday errands, locals can drive 2 miles south to Giant Food or MOM's Organic Market. The Rotunda shopping mall nearby has several high-end stores, a movie theater and a Tuesday farmer’s market from early June to late October.
