Barber Valley combines new development with pristine nature

Barber Valley is a neighborhood on the edge of Boise that blends modern suburban living with natural scenery and recreation. The area is home to the master-planned Harris Ranch community, a group of subdivisions featuring over 1,000 homes on a former ranch. You’ll find New Traditional and contemporary houses packed into the neighborhood, and popular restaurants within walking distance. The Boise Foothills tower over the community to the northeast, and the Boise River flows along the neighborhood’s western edge, giving you plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Home sizes impact prices in this growing community

Barber Valley is one of the newest neighborhoods in Boise, with a median build year of 2015. “The growth out there is crazy. We used to ride our bikes and bring our kids out there, and there was nothing. Now there’s so much development,” says Jen Clements, an associate broker at Homes of Idaho, with eight years of experience. Homes are packed tightly onto suburban lots. It’s a walkable community with sidewalks on most streets, and leafy trees add a natural feel to the area. Many homes have stone elements on the exteriors, and attached garages are common. Single-family houses typically cost between the lower $600,000s and the mid-$1,300,000s. Homes over 3,000 square feet fall between the upper $800,000s and the mid-$2,200,000s. Townhouses are also common, costing between the upper $500,000s and mid-$700,000s.

New townhomes in Barber Valley typically run between the upper $500,000s and mid-$700,000s.

Five different homeowners associations make up Harris Ranch. These organizations handle landscaping, clubhouse reservations, neighborhood maintenance and other tasks. HOA fees in the community typically range from around $100 to $200 per month.

Where to find restaurants and cafes in Barber Valley

Popular locally owned restaurants are close to home in Barber Valley. You can start your day by walking to Coffee Mill or grab lunch at Lucky 13, which is known for its outdoor patio and specialty pizzas. Next door, The Stil is a great place to grab dessert, with a menu featuring a wide range of ice cream flavors. Just west of the neighborhood, several restaurants line Bown Way, including the Tavern at Bown Crossing. “That’s locally owned and it’s great for a classic, something-for-everyone kind of restaurant,” Clements says. Groceries are available at Albertsons on Parkcenter Boulevard or M&W Warm Springs Market on Warm Springs Avenue.

Parks, trails and pools give residents lots to explore

Recreation surrounds the neighborhood, giving you plenty of ways to enjoy Idaho’s scenery. Some things you can don include:

  • Head to Marianne Williams Park to enjoy a picnic, stroll around the walking paths or fish in the pond
  • Grab your bike or your walking shoes for a trek on the Boise River Greenbelt
  • Hit the trails in the Boise Foothills, with trailheads accessible on Council Spring Road and East Grand Prairie Drive
