An 11-story condo building just outside Flushing’s urban center
Just outside of Flushing’s busy urban core, the 11-story Wisteria Plaza stands out amid leafy streets and mostly low-rise residential buildings. A statement entrance on Roosevelt Avenue includes a porte-cochere with a three-tiered canopy and stone accent wall, lending a sense of significance to the otherwise simple brick structure — a rectangular slab silhouette interspersed with rows of balconies. Paved in terrazzo, the covered entrance walkway leads to a lobby bisected by a long red carpet that goes past the front desk and mailboxes to the elevator bank. Built in 1983, the 80-unit condo property is comprised of two- and three-bedroom residences, many of which come with private outdoor space. Additional perks include the residents-only parking lot that encircles three sides of the building, as well as a part-time security guard. The location in a quieter section of a bustling neighborhood strikes a balance between having ease of access to services like the subway without being interrupted by constant urban noise.
Two-bedroom units starting at $800,000
In a departure from many developments in the city, Wisteria Plaza offers only two- and three-bedroom layouts, with most dwellings between 1,100 and 1,200 square feet. Among the common features are hardwood floors, built-in HVAC units, eat-in kitchens, walk-in closets and private balconies. A mix of finishes can be found throughout, including tiled bathrooms and dark-stone kitchen countertops, with some interiors sporting crown molding and parquet floors. While many of the units appear to have been updated since the original construction, some kitchen appliances like dishwashers and ranges would benefit from an upgrade. Prices start at around $800,000 and rarely go above $900,000. Monthly HOA fees, meanwhile, range from $500 to $600 and cover essential services including heating, gas and garbage removal.
Limited amenities include parking and on-site laundry
Perks at Wisteria Plaza are limited but include elevators, a shared laundry room and a live-in super, meaning that maintenance issues are promptly addressed. The property is secured with lobby cameras, a part-time security guard and virtual doorman. Perhaps the most significant amenity is the large surface parking lot on the fringes of the building. There’s no waiting list for spots, each of which costs $77 per month. While there isn’t a fitness center on site, an Iron Pump Gym is a 10-minute walk away.
Just blocks from shopping centers such as Tangram and Skyview Parc
Brimming with an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and markets that reflect the area's predominantly Asian populace, Flushing is known for its vibrant street life that rivals some of Manhattan’s busiest areas. An array of acclaimed restaurants serving regional Chinese cuisine include Szechuan Mountain House and Chongqing Lao Zao, and the area is filled with popular take-out windows like Eight Jane that specialize in signature dishes. In the last decade, enormous mixed-use developments such as Tangram and Skyview Parc have popped up, bringing even more stores and entertainment options to the area, including SkyFoods Supermarket, the nearest grocery store to Wisteria Plaza. Parks are a little harder to find, but several playgrounds are within walking distance, including Murray Hill Playground and Browne Playground. The sprawling Flushing Meadows Corona Park can be reached in 25 minutes if walking and encompasses nearly 900 acres of recreational areas, sporting facilities and cultural sites such as the Queens Museum. Additional attractions include Citi Field and Queens Botanical Garden. The Shield Institute, which is one of the city’s oldest centers for children and adults with developmental disabilities, is located next door.
The 7 train stops half a mile away
Wisteria Plaza’s location in central Flushing provides easy access to numerous transit options, with the Flushing-Main Street subway station, the terminus for the 7 train, half a mile away. A trip from there to Grand Central takes roughly 45 minutes. The Long Island Rail Road, meanwhile, makes a stop just two blocks away at Murray Hill and reaches Penn Station in as little as 25 minutes. In the opposite direction, the line goes to Great Neck and Port Washington in Nassau County. Flushing is also well-served by bus routes, with a few routes stopping within a five-minute walk, including the QM3, which goes to Midtown Manhattan via Long Island City. The building’s location three blocks from Northern Boulevard means that the drive to LaGuardia Airport takes just 10 minutes, and JFK can be reached in about 15 minutes depending on traffic.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
