Roughly 10 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, new homes have started cropping up in the long-established suburb of Enderly Park. “Enderly Park is on the outskirts of Wesley Heights, which is a transitioning neighborhood,” says John Siddons, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Carolinas Realty. As the surrounding neighborhoods have grown trendier, more businesses have started settling in Enderly Park — and it stands to reason that this Charlotte enclave might be next to hit its stride. “If you want to be somewhere that’s a little more affordable, and that’s transitioning and has some potential upsides, that’s a good place to be,” Siddons adds.

Established homes sit alongside a growing number of new builds
Enderly Park comprises single-family homes settled on moderately sized lots against the neighborhood’s shallow hillsides. The streets are narrow and dotted with trees, and chain link fences and rows of hedges run against the sidewalks. The majority of houses are renter-occupied, and most were built between the 1940s and ‘50s, with typical styles of the era including bungalows, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes. However, more and more new construction homes with Craftsman elements like wooden columns have started cropping up in the area. On the lower end, a two-bedroom home in need of upgrades can sell for $220,000, while brand-new four-bedroom houses can climb upwards of $800,000. Median home values in are still landing at roughly $450,000, though rates continue to rise year-over-year. Enderly Park receives an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 7 out of 10, which is higher than the national average of 4. However, there are some signs of positive change happening in the community. According to local Realtor Patty Rainey of Corcoran HM Properties, “Revitalization activity is positive and welcomed by the community’s long-time residents. And, by and large, a lot of the area’s original character is being maintained.”
While there are many historic homes, newer builds in Enderly Park are slowly being added.

New restaurants are calling Enderly Park home
Longstanding staples mingle with brand-new additions in Enderly Park’s dining scene as a buzzy cluster of restaurants along Morehead Street have started inching into the neighborhood. Along Tuckaseegee Road, residents will find a friendly, community-oriented café at Enderly Coffee Company, whose small-batch roasted beans make for a smooth drip coffee. Further down is LuLu’s Express, a neighborhood standby for counter-service comfort food ranging from fried chicken to crab cake, while Marquee Charlotte is the place to go for late-night mingling over tapas and cocktails. Noble Smoke — heralded as one of the best barbecue joints in the city — is just outside of the neighborhood, but residents will still be able to smell their wood-fired smokers from a mile away. Those who like to grill at home can pick up all their daily goods from the Aldi at Freedom Village Shopping Center or shop international flavors from Compare Foods Supermarket.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are a couple miles from home
Young residents can attend nearby Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Kids in kindergarten through the eighth grade can kickstart their education at Ashley Park Elementary, which scores a C grade from Niche. Harding University High also earns a C and is home to the countywide Institute of Technology. Students from across the area can enroll in the high school’s programs for construction technology, automotive technology, and 3D design and digital manufacturing.

Neighborhood parks and a sprawling greenway
Residents can get fresh air a few blocks from home at the neighborhood’s namesake green space, Enderly Park. Perfect for playground playdates, pickup games or picnics in the sun, locals can rest beneath the Ginkgo trees, whose striking yellow leaves are most vibrant in autumn. Another favorite place for recreation and relaxation is Martin Luther King Jr Park, a larger open space bordered by the Stewart Creek Greenway. Residents can walk or bike ride along the scenic waterside trail that extends all the way into Uptown. On rainy days, locals can stay active at the Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center’s gym or register their kids to attend summer camp and youth sports at the facility.

Commute by car or by CATS bus
A three-mile commute southeast will land residents directly in Charlotte’s Center City. “It’s close to the city and the airport, but you don’t really have walkability,” Siddons notes. While the neighborhood is close to Interstates 85, 77 and 277, many locals bypass the highway traffic by traveling on Tuckaseegee Road. The city’s CATS bus route has stops that extend the length of the main thoroughfare for those who prefer a car-free ride around town.
Public transportation is easily accessible from Enderly Park.
